Gianluca Gustin

Gianluca Gustin, based in Trieste (Italy), is a Senior CFD Engineer at the Naval Architecture Department of Fincantieri Merchant Ship Business Unit since 2013.

In this role, he actively participates in the design of the hulls and propellers as well as aerodynamic design of the vessels. The team has the goal to design and deliver hulls and propellers, improving as far as possible their efficiency, while meeting the contractual and Rules & Regulations requirements.

Gianluca participates and manages several research projects (both internal and funded projects). In this context, he has co-authored some papers on the application of Reduced Order Model and Parametric Model Embedding in the numerical optimisation process.

Alma Mater/Degrees: MSc Mechanical Engineering, University of Trieste, IT

Gianluca Gustin

Riccardo Buiatti is the Technical Director of Groupe Beneteau Italia (GBI), where he oversees technical development, coordinating design, naval architecture, and integration with production processes. With a degree in Naval Engineering from the University of Trieste, he has gained solid experience in the integrated design of recreational boats, driven by a passion for the sea and sailing, cultivated in his youth through participation in numerous international regattas.

He joined Beneteau Italia in 2012, initially at Monte Carlo Yacht, where he helped define an end-to-end approach to product development, integrating concept design, engineering, production, and sailing performance. He promotes the adoption of digital tools and digital twin methodologies to optimize the product lifecycle, focusing on the technical efficiency and environmental sustainability of both the product and the processes.

Gianluca Gustin

Agnieszka Wyłomańska is a distinguished expert in the modeling of signals characterized by non-Gaussian and anomalous behavior. Her career is defined by a unique ability to bridge the gap between rigorous mathematical theory and complex industrial challenges. As a leader in applied mathematics, she has spearheaded numerous high-impact projects with global industry partners such as Nokia, KGHM mining company, and AMC Tech, transforming theoretical frameworks into practical applications for telecommunications, mining, and technical diagnostics. This deep connection to the industrial sector extends to her role as a mentor, where she serves as a supervisor for PhD theses specifically focused on applied mathematics with strong industrial ties. By guiding researchers through problems rooted in real-world data and operational complexity, she continues to foster a vital synergy between academic innovation and commercial advancement. She is also a Vice-Dean of the Doctoral School at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The Eu-Maths-In network

Connecting companies with industrial mathematics

EU-MATHS-IN (European Service Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation) is the main European network acting as a knowledge transfer bridge between industrial mathematics research and Europe’s productive sector. It was founded to establish a continent-wide infrastructure that boosts the impact of mathematical sciences on key technologies and business innovation.

This “network of networks” brings together more than 400 research centres and thousands of experts from various national networks across Europe. Its fundamental goal is to serve as the single point of contact (single window) for European industry, offering direct access to advanced tools for modelling, simulation, and optimisation. Furthermore, EU-MATHS-IN focuses on providing customised solutions to companies’ challenges, delivering added value and acting as a driving force for innovation through bespoke mathematical models.
